Simpson Academy is 9-1 against East Rankin Academy since February of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Simpson Academy will head out to face off against East Rankin Academy at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Simpson Academy comes in on eight and East Rankin Academy on three.
On Friday, Simpson Academy made easy work of Leake Academy and carried off an 8-1 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Braxton Baldwin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Benjamin Kennedy, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since March 1st. The team also got some help courtesy of Hendrix Magee, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Simpson Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, East Rankin Academy got themselves on the board against Park Place Christian Academy on Friday, but Park Place Christian Academy never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Crusaders. The Patriots are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the sixth matchup they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Aiden Carlisle and Jordan Porter made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Carlisle tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Porter tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carlisle has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Carlisle went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run, while Porter scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That triple was Carlisle's first of the season.
In other batting news, Will McGee was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was Brayden Ingram, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Simpson Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for East Rankin Academy, their record is now 9-6.
Simpson Academy beat East Rankin Academy 5-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Simpson Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
