The Northeast Dubois Jeeps will challenge the South Spencer Rebels at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northeast Dubois is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.
On Thursday, Northeast Dubois earned a 7-2 victory over Vincennes Rivet.
Brycen Mroz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Sheetz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.
Northeast Dubois was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Spencer, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Wood Memorial on Thursday as they made off with an 11-1 win.
South Spencer also got a great performance from Traven Mongold as he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Mongold a new career-high.
At the plate, Ty Mattingly was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Beau Heck, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Northeast Dubois' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Spencer, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Northeast Dubois' speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's contest. The Jeeps have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South Spencer, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Northeast Dubois continue to outrun the ball?
Northeast Dubois skirted past South Spencer 6-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Will the Jeeps repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
