The Life Prep Fire had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 50-49 win over Independent. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Life Prep also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Life Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Arthur Videira, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Laterro Young was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Independent's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sir Ryan Dennis, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Phillips-Grey, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Independent struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Life Prep pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Life Prep's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. As for Independent, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-1.
Life Prep's road trip will continue as they head out to face North Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Independent, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Conway Springs at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Conway Springs will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
