The Crawfordsville Athenians will take on the Covington Trojans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Crawfordsville has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 12.
Things were looking good for Crawfordsville after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 18-8 to Parke Heritage.
Christina Susdorf made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Madison Martin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Covington not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 25-9). They were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over Fountain Central. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Alexus Peaslee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Haley Holycross and Preslee Shaw did most of the damage at the plate: Holycross fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4, while Shaw went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Shaw a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Sutherlin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Crawfordsville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Covington, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.
