York Institute is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while East Robertson is on a 11-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The York Institute Dragons will take on the East Robertson Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
York Institute had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Hampton 56-13 on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-6.
York Institute got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Riylin Miller out in front who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and also picked up 101 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Miller was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards. Another player making a difference was Myles Leffew, who threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns on only eight passes.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for East Robertson on the road against Smith County on Friday as the squad secured a 49-20 win. East Robertson pushed the score to 49-12 by the end of the third, a deficit Smith County cut but never quite recovered from.
Isaiah Groves continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 254 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, and also picking up 84 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Kason Young, who punched in a rushing scores.
Their wins bumped York Institute to 13-0 and East Robertson to 12-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: York Institute has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 282.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like East Robertson struggles in that department as they've been even better at 307.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
