The Pitman Pride will take on the Hughson Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Pitman has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Hughson will arrive with six straight wins.
Last Tuesday, Pitman came up short against Turlock and fell 8-4.
Ivy Butler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Keanna Haro, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hughson hadn't done well against Escalon recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Hughson walked away with a 9-4 victory over Escalon. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Cougars on their field since March 24, 2022.
Kylie Tangney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Leedom, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Allison Moring was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Hughson hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive contests.
Hughson pushed their record up to 9-4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Pitman, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Everything went Pitman's way against Hughson in their previous matchup back in March of 2020, as Pitman made off with a 13-2 win. Does Pitman have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hughson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
