The Pilgrim Academy kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They suffered a rough 10-0 loss at the hands of Gateway Regional.
Meanwhile, Calvary Academy got the win against Cumberland Christian on Tuesday by a conclusive 21-1.
Shawn Fraumeni and Tony DiChiara made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Fraumeni struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, DiChiara tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks). At the plate, Fraumeni scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while DiChiara scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Caleb Arleth was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Jake Nelson was another key contributor, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Everything went The Pilgrim Academy's way against Calvary Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2023 as The Pilgrim Academy made off with an 11-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for The Pilgrim Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
