The Atchison County Tigers came into Friday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 48-42 W over Jackson Heights on Friday. The win was just what Atchison County needed coming off of a 58-25 defeat in their prior contest.
Leading Atchison County to victory were Madison Martin and Kinzee Bauerle. Martin scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks, while Bauerle scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. It was the first time this season that Martin scored 15 or more points.
Jackson Heights' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dawson Cochren, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Cochren also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chesnea Cochren, who scored 19 points.
Even though they lost, Jackson Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Atchison County only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Atchison County's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Jackson Heights, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
Atchison County will head out on the road to face off against Jefferson County North at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Jefferson County North presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Atchison County in Kansas (Jefferson County North is ranked 111th, while Atchison County is ranked 265th). As for Jackson Heights, they will be playing at home against Oskaloosa at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Jackson Heights focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
