The Caston Comets will head out to face off against the North Judson-San Pierre Bluejays at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Caston sitting on three straight wins and North Judson-San Pierre on four.
While Caston didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They never let North White get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Monday. Considering the Comets have won five games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Mia Mersch was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Mersch was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Caston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, North Judson-San Pierre got the win against DeMotte Christian on Monday by a conclusive 11-3. The Bluejays are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fourth contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Like Caston, North Judson-San Pierre also got a great game from a two-way player: Molly Madsen. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 6.1 innings pitched. Madsen has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three stolen bases, and four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Lexi Howard was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Amelia Chaffins, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Caston's record is now 6-3. As for North Judson-San Pierre, their record now sits at 4-2.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Caston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. However, it's not like North Judson-San Pierre struggles in that department as they've averaged .510. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Caston couldn't quite get it done against North Judson-San Pierre in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 10-6. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
