The Marietta Blue Devils just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the North Paulding Wolfpack at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Marietta sitting on six straight wins and North Paulding on five.
Marietta stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 71-25 victory over Gainesville. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Marietta has posted since December 12, 2023.
Marietta can attribute much of their success to Kayla Day, who almost dropped a triple-double on 18 points, nine assists, and ten steals, and Kyann Senior, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Senior has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Frances Storey, who scored nine points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, North Paulding beat Hillgrove 44-32 on Friday. Given North Paulding's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Hillgrove is ranked 115th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marietta is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for North Paulding, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-4.
Things could have been worse for Marietta, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-31 loss to North Paulding when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Marietta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
