The Yorkville Christian Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 69-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kaneland. While losing is never fun, Yorkville Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 388th, while Kaneland is ranked 134th).
Despite the loss, Yorkville Christian saw an underclassman step up: Jayden Riley scored 34 points along with eight assists. Riley hasn't dropped below 21 points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Noah Aguado, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Yorkville Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 13-17. As for Kaneland, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 22-4.
Yorkville Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Gardner-South Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Kaneland, they will head out on the road to take on DeKalb at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. DeKalb is on a four-game streak of home wins, Kaneland a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
