Roanoke Rapids is 8-2 against Bunn since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Bunn Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Roanoke Rapids and five for Bunn.
Last Wednesday, Roanoke Rapids came up short against Northampton County and fell 45-36.
Roanoke Rapids' defeat came about despite a quality game from Shaniah Daniels, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 12 rebounds, and ten blocks. Daniels has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alexis Bednarczyk, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bunn was the victim of a rough 43-19 defeat at the hands of Southern Nash on Tuesday. Bunn was down 39-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mariely Baez-Hernandez, who scored six points. Mercedes Fowler was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Roanoke Rapids dropped their record down to 4-13 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Bunn, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-18 record this season.
Roanoke Rapids strolled past Bunn in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 36-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for Roanoke Rapids since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
