The Mission Oak Hawks''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 35-34 to Hanford. While losing is never fun, Mission Oak can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while Hanford is ranked 104th).
Mission Oak's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Gonzalez, who threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Cameron Azevedo, who picked up 54 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Daniel Gomez got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Zephaniah Sesay, who picked up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mission Oak's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Hanford, Tulare Union, and Central Valley Christian. As for Hanford, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Mission Oak will head out on the road to face off against Dinuba at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hanford, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lemoore at 7:00 p.m. Lemoore is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
