It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Cameron Dragons ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 42-41 win over Doddridge County. The victory was all the more spectacular given Cameron's disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Doddridge County is ranked 57th).
Doddridge County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brandon Hileman, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Hileman is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerod Trent, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
The win was the third in a row for Cameron, bringing their record for this year to 14-4. As for Doddridge County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cameron will challenge Weir at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Doddridge County, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Clay-Battelle at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. Clay-Battelle is coming into the matchup with four straight wins at home, so Doddridge County is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
