Wilmot had lost eight games at home dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 2-11 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Beloit Memorial Purple Knights by a score of 17-12. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Lizzy Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Wilmot let Ellie Eggert and Sarah Josko run wild. Eggert went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run, while Josko went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those five hits gave Eggert a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Walshire, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Wilmot hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beloit Memorial struck out seven times.
As for Beloit Memorial, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-11.
On Beloit Memorial's side, Brooklynne Hereford-Foster made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Hereford-Foster continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abigail Middleton, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilmot will welcome Elkhorn at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Elks have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Beloit Memorial, they will be playing at home against Janesville Parker at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
