The Tomball Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Tomball Memorial Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tomball will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Last Friday, Tomball was fully in charge, breezing past Waller 42-8 on the road. Given Tomball's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Waller is ranked 422nd), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tomball to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Noyes, who threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes. Tomball also got help from Brooks Junod who showed off his sure hands for 104 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Tomball Memorial's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They suffered a tough 35-14 defeat at the hands of Klein Collins. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tomball Memorial in their matchups with Klein Collins: they've now lost three in a row.
Tomball's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-1. To be fair, it's not like the team was facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-5 Waller and 2-4 Klein (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.3% over those games). Having lost for the first time this season, Tomball Memorial fell to 5-1.
Tomball was able to grind out a solid victory over Tomball Memorial when the teams last played back in October of 2022, winning 35-27. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Tomball Memorial's Reed Odell, who threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75.8% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Tomball to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
