The Basic Wolves will face off against the Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Basic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Basic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Foothill as they made off with a 12-2 win. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Melanie Hughes made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
In other batting news, Isabella Christensen and Mia Frias did most of the damage at the plate: Christensen went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Frias went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Frias has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Samantha Marquez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Basic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Doral Academy Red Rock faced Basic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Dragons won by a run and slipped past the Wolves 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dragons have posted since February 27th.
Doral Academy Red Rock's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gabriella Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Doral Academy Red Rock has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Basic, their victory bumped their record up to 16-12.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Basic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Doral Academy Red Rock struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
