Monticello fell victim to Grand County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 16-0 to the Red Devils. The Buckaroo have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, Monument Valley entered their tilt with Tuba City on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Mustangs have won nine matches by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Adrianna Dominguez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Meya-Raye Bahe was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Nannabah Haskan was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
Monument Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Monument Valley, their record is now 13-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Monticello has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .551. However, it's not like Monument Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .528. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
