Stroud is a perfect 10-0 against Okemah since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Tigers will challenge the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Stroud will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Stroud came out on top against Holdenville on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run first inning. The Tigers put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 13-0 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.
Brayden Davis looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cal Shields was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jessen Leathers was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Stroud always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holdenville only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 22 runs the game before, Okemah was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to Meeker.
Okemah saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brodie Crowe, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Stroud's record now sits at 14-5. As for Okemah, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Stroud has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Okemah struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stroud got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Okemah by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
