The Harlan Hawks will take on the Southwest Dragons at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Last Tuesday, everything went Harlan's way against Brennan as Harlan made off with a 12-2 win. With that victory, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Aubrey Flores tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sarah Almazan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she also posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lily Lugo, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Southwest never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Jay 7-0. That seven run margin sets a new team best for the Dragons this season.
The result came thanks to Angelina Terrazas's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. What's more, she also gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Southwest got a massive performance out of Madisyn Alaquinez, who went a perfect4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Alaquinez's hit this season. Isabela Gutierrez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Southwest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The win made it two in a row for Harlan and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Southwest, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Harlan skirted past Southwest 1-0 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Does Harlan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Southwest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
