Bryan Mares made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Mares wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wes Griffin, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Horizon sidestepped Flagstaff for a 9-7 victory.
Hunter Walker looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Colten Figueroa, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Ethan Trahan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
