Webber hasn't had much luck against Elverado recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Webber has given up an average of 19 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Webber fell victim to Woodlawn and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 19-0 to the Cardinals. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Elverado entered their tilt with Steeleville on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since May 15, 2024.
Essence Haynes was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Haynes was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Haynes wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaylen Marshall, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Another was Maci Cararway, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Elverado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive matches.
Elverado pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Webber, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Webber's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Elverado, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Webber continue to outrun the ball?
Webber might still be hurting after the 19-1 loss they got from Elverado in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
