The Pensacola Tigers will square off against the Destin Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pensacola will be strutting in after a win while Destin will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with ten losses in a row, Pensacola turned things around against Booker T. Washington on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 15-3 victory. The contest marked the Tigers' most dominant win of the season.
Sydney Jauncey spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Reigna Robinson and Mariell Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Robinson went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Jones got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Robinson has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Howard, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Pensacola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Booker T. Washington only posted an OBP of .320.
Meanwhile, Destin started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Freeport. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Monday. The Sharks have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
Destin also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Aspen Benscoter gave up three earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. Benscoter has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Keelie Ellis and Anita Palmer did some serious damage despite the final result: Ellis went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Palmer went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Destin's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Pensacola, their victory bumped their record up to 3-16.
Pensacola suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Destin in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
