Liberty has gone a perfect 4-0 against Sierra Vista recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Patriots will host the Mountain Lions at 3:30 p.m. Liberty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Liberty is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Basic, who was ranked first at the time (Liberty was ranked sixth). The Patriots took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves on Friday.
Christopher Hemphill stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jaydrien Klein-Baker, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Sierra Vista entered their tilt with Bonanza on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Bengals with a sharp 14-6 victory.
Owen Angelo was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Michael Alvarado was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Sierra Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Liberty's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6. As for Sierra Vista, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Sierra Vista's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. It's a different story for Sierra Vista, though, as they've only averaged .365. Will they be able to contain Liberty's hitters?
Liberty took their victory against Sierra Vista when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 10-1 score. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mountain Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
