MAIS A District 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
DeSoto extended the longest winning streak in MAIS A District 1 this week by beating Bayou Academy, 45-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Thunderbirds.
Deer Creek moved up to 219 from 250 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Warriors were able to make the jump by beating Lee Academy 41-6.
The Colts' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Kitchings threw for 88 yards and Cole Hutchinson had 70 yards receiving. On the ground Caleb Pilgrim chipped in 28 yards. Davis Dalton helped Bayou Academy's passing attack out by catching four balls for 39 yards.
Bayou Academy's Kitchings and Pilgrim have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Kitchings has thrown for 422 yards this season, while Pilgrim has five catches for 202 yards. David Lewis from West Memphis Christian leads the league in rushing with 411 yards.
A big matchup in MAIS A District 1 this week will be when Tunica Academy takes on Deer Creek. The Blue Devils are in fifth place, while Murry Rhodes's team is in second place.
DeSoto took down Terry King's team 45-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
