The Wake Forest Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Leesville Road. While losing is never fun, Wake Forest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 514th, while Leesville Road is ranked 256th).
Despite the defeat, Wake Forest saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Lashley scored 11 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Lashley posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Palmer Chase, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wake Forest were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. This was only their ninth loss (out of ten games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Wake Forest's defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-13. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Leesville Road, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Wake Forest will be playing at home against Knightdale at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Knightdale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Wednesday. Leesville Road won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Garner at 7:00 p.m. on January 13th.
