Natchez is 9-1 against Port Gibson since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Natchez Bulldogs will challenge the Port Gibson Blue Waves at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Natchez is headed into the game having just posted their biggest win since March 30, 2024 on Thursday. Everything went their way against Amite County as Natchez made off with an 18-1 victory.
Chris Sewell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Sewell was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Natchez let Jaylin Neal and Martavis Woods loose on the outfield. Neal scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Woods scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Neal has posted since back in March of 2024. Can Damion Hawkins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Port Gibson). They were the clear victor by an 18-2 margin over Hazlehurst on Friday. The Blue Waves haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Like Natchez, Port Gibson also got a great game from a two-way player: Terrance Evans. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That's the fewest earned runs Evans has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Michael Evans was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Centrell Hedrick, who scored two runs and stole six bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Port Gibson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Natchez took their victory against Port Gibson in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Natchez since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
