The Fishers Tigers will take on the Noblesville Millers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fishers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Fishers is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since April 6, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Homestead by a score of 5-3. The loss was the Tigers' first of the season.
Jase Ruggles put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other pitching news, Austin Conley was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
Back at the plate, Trevor Hall was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Noblesville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Greenfield-Central 8-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Millers.
Like Fishers, Noblesville also got a great game from a two-way player: Trevor Corbett. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Corbett a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Eli Hall looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Luke Hagelskamp was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Tanner Miller, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Noblesville pushed their record up to 5-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Fishers, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fishers has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Noblesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fishers couldn't quite get it done against Noblesville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
