The Columbia Tigers entered their tilt with the Suwannee Bulldogs with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Columbia really took it to Suwannee for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-35 victory on the road. With Columbia ahead 39-18 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Columbia was led to victory by JOLENA GARDNER and AYESHA BROXEY. GARDNER scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while BROXEY dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that BROXEY pulled down eight or more rebounds. ERIEL BAKER was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven steals and six assists.
Suwannee's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Shadavia Jones, who scored nine points, and Kiera Jelks who scored nine points.
Columbia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Suwannee, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbia won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Rickards at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. Rickards is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Suwannee will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Madison County at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
