Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Castle Knights, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 51-41 to the Bears on Friday. Castle was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Evansville Central found their leader in underclassman Madalynn Shirley, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 20 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Shirley has scored at least a third of Evansville Central's points. Mya Skelton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Castle's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Evansville Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Castle does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Evansville Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Evansville North is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
