Two dominant guards in Sabrina Anderson and Kennedy Austin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Potomac School Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Maret Frogs at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Potomac School waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They blew past Flint Hill 78-43 at home. Given Potomac School's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Huskies are ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Potomac School can attribute much of their success to Catherine Letendre, who scored 24 points along with five steals, and Anderson, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 5 assists. Anderson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Sabrina Eldredge was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you make seven more threes than your opponent, a fact Maret proved on Tuesday. Everything went their way against St. Andrew's Episcopal as Maret made off with a 58-38 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Maret.
Austin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Claire Mathews, who scored 16 points.
Potomac School has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Maret, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Potomac School have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Maret struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Potomac School couldn't quite finish off the Frogs when the teams last played back in January of 2023 and fell 49-46. Thankfully for Potomac School, Maryan Eniafe (who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
