It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Mt. Zion Braves can now relate to. They fell just short of Breese Central by a score of 16-13. Mt. Zion lost against Breese Central in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 21-18 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Mt. Zion lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Brayden Trimble. Despite the final result, he rushed for eight yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 48 receiving yards.
Breese Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Preston Baker out in front who rushed for 102 yards, and also threw for 139 yards and a touchdown. Griffen Becker also helped out with an impressive 99 receiving yards.
Mt. Zion's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-3. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.3 points per game. As for Breese Central, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Mt. Zion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Breese Central will take on Rochester at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rochester has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 578 points over their last 11 games.
