Softball Recap: White Bear Lake Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Forest Lake, White Bear Lake was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders, sneaking past 3-1. Surprisingly, this marked the Bears' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Lilly Martin was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

Martin wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Teagan Kotzmacher, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lauren Elias also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

White Bear Lake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cretin-Derham Hall struck out 15 times.

White Bear Lake is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cretin-Derham Hall, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Coming up, White Bear Lake will challenge Woodbury at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Royals will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Cretin-Derham Hall, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mounds View at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
