Chris Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Pagosa Springs is 3-1 when Martinez allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Martinez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Pagosa Springs let Kyler Henderson and Zach Pouyer run wild. Henderson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Pouyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Pouyer has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Washburn, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Pagosa Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Ignacio had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with a 27-7 victory. The Bobcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ignacio got a massive performance out of Ambrose V, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Evan Maez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Ignacio's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for Pagosa Springs, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pagosa Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ignacio struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pagosa Springs came out on top in a nail-biter against Ignacio in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
