Kendal Schaefer was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Shay Caban was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Kimberly Rubio Buelna also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Concord always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Berean Christian got the win against Campolindo on Tuesday by a conclusive 20-3.
Ella Allardyce was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Concord's record now sits at 9-7. As for Berean Christian, their record is now 9-4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Concord has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berean Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Concord suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Berean Christian in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
