Softball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Bay Port's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Bay Port won the last time they faced Manitowoc Lincoln and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pirates put the hurt on the Ships with a sharp 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Estelle Finlan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Morgan VandenBrandon was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hailey Montie, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

Bay Port always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manitowoc Lincoln only posted an OBP of .286.

Bay Port has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Manitowoc Lincoln, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Bay Port beat the Ships by a score of 14-0 later that day.
