The Pinewood Prep Panthers waltzed into their game Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They took down Cane Bay 67-51. Given Pinewood Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Cane Bay is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pinewood Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tripp Eidson led the charge by scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Eidson scored 15 or more points. Michael Jones was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds.
Several Cobras players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donovan Green, who scored eight points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Green has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jarvis Roper, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Cane Bay were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinewood Prep only posted 19 assists.
Pinewood Prep's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Cane Bay, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.
Pinewood Prep will square off against Heathwood Hall Episcopal at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Heathwood Hall Episcopal has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Cane Bay, they will head out on the road to face off against Fort Dorchester at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Averaging 65.2 so far this season, Fort Dorchester's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Cane Bay better be ready for a challenge.
