Great Crossing will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Newport Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st. Great Crossing knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Newport likes a good challenge.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Great Crossing ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 64-61 victory over North Oldham. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Great Crossing has scored all year.
Great Crossing's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Junius Burrell, who scored 16 points along with five steals, and Malachi Moreno, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Vince Dawson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight assists.
Meanwhile, even though Washington County scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, Newport still came out on top. Newport took their game against Washington County 64-55. The victory was familiar territory for Newport who now have three in a row.
Tay Kinney and Deshaun Jackson jr were among the main playmakers for Newport as the former scored 19 points and the latter scored 17 points along with seven assists. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jabari Covington, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Great Crossing's win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Newport, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Great Crossing hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 77 points per game. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've been averaging only 66.2 points per game. The only thing between Great Crossing and another offensive beatdown is Newport.
