The Pendleton Heights Arabians will head out on the road to take on the Westfield Shamrocks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pendleton Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Pendleton Heights fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lapel on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-4. That makes it the first time this season the Arabians have let down their home crowd.
Brayden Stevenson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brandt Gray made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Westfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Noblesville.
Westfield also got a good showing from James Kovacs, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Kovacs has allowed over his last four games.
On the hitting side, Westfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Beck Jordan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Westfield's record is now 10-6. As for Pendleton Heights, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 11-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Pendleton Heights has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Westfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pendleton Heights might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Westfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Arabians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
