Holy Cross has gone a perfect 4-0 against Saint Mary's Hall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Knights will head out to square off against the Barons at 4:30 p.m. Holy Cross is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Holy Cross is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since February 13th on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Incarnate Word.
Leena Garcia was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Genesis Medrano, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Holy Cross was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Saint Mary's Hall had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Barons, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Riley Wallace made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Meryl Jones, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Harder Kuhm also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Holy Cross is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Saint Mary's Hall, their record is now 13-6-1.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Holy Cross has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .540. However, it's not like Saint Mary's Hall struggles in that department as they've averaged .449. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Holy Cross took their victory against Saint Mary's Hall in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 by a conclusive 20-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
