Omaha South is 0-7 against Omaha Westside since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Omaha South Packers will head out on the road to square off against the Omaha Westside Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Omaha South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.
Omaha South won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 69-33 loss at the hands of Lincoln Southwest. While losing is never fun, Omaha South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while Lincoln Southwest is ranked 20th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Aaliyah Foster, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie James, who scored eight points along with six steals.
Even though they lost, Omaha South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Southwest only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Omaha Westside beat Pius X 57-52 on Thursday.
Omaha Westside can attribute much of their success to Kimora Jenkins, who scored 18 points, and Kara Stricklin, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Hagen, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Omaha South now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Omaha Westside, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Omaha South have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Omaha Westside, though, as they've been averaging only 29.7 rebounds per game. Given Omaha South's sizeable advantage in that area, Omaha Westside will need to find a way to close that gap.
Omaha South was taken down by Omaha Westside 71-28 when the teams last played back in January of 2022. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Omaha South was down 48-17.
