Softball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Shafter

Independence barely beat Shafter the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went the Independence Falcons' way against the Shafter Generals on Thursday as the Independence Falcons made off with a 7-1 victory. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Generals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Destiny Serna made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Serna was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daisy Martinez, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Aubrey Power was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shafter only managed seven hits.

Independence's record is now 2-0.

Independence wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Burroughs on the 27th. As for Shafter, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-3 defeat against Liberty on the 27th.
