Softball Recap: Greenfield Has No Trouble Against Gonzales

Greenfield hadn't done well against Gonzales recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bruins put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 11-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won nine games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Chloe Zavala made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Zavala was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Soto, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Yara Hernandez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run.

Greenfield's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-14. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Gonzales, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Greenfield has already played their next contest (against St. Francis), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Gonzales, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 29-6 win against Pajaro Valley on the 12th.
