Yuma Catholic's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Odyssey Institute as they made off with a 14-0 win. Jose Alcalde and Ivan Guzman were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Alcalde tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Guzman tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At bat, Alcalde went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI, one triple, and one run, while Guzman went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Joey Carey was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Leonel Avelar was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Yuma Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valley Christian). They were the clear victors by a 29-2 margin over Coolidge on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Ryan Sanchez, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and three doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brock Jackson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Valley Christian is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Yuma Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 20-1.
Both Yuma Catholic and Valley Christian just can't seem to miss. The Shamrocks have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
