Softball Game Preview: Skyline Spartans vs. Liberty Patriots

Skyline has gone a perfect 4-0 against Liberty recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Skyline is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Skyline had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Juanita on Wednesday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Ravens with a sharp 9-2 win.

Elin Aageson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits.

At the plate, Shea Staley was a standout: she fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Elle Sexton, who scored three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Skyline was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Juanita only posted a batting average of .259.

Meanwhile, Liberty fell victim to Issaquah and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 15-0 to the Eagles. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Skyline pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Skyline was able to grind out a solid victory over Liberty in their previous meeting back in March, winning 8-3. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
