The Delaware Academy Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Sidney Team at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Delaware Academy has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Delaware Academy was handed a 19-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Unatego 14-13. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Leah Dennis was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Rebecca Verspoor, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sidney, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Dryden with a sharp 24-8 victory on Saturday. The Team's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sidney got a massive performance out of Sam Constable, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Emily Russo, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, two RBI, and one double.
Sidney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Delaware Academy's record is now 6-3. As for Sidney, their record now sits at 3-4.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Delaware Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .499. However, it's not like Sidney struggles in that department as they've averaged .520. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Delaware Academy came up short against Sidney when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
