The East Surry Cardinals had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They blew past Surry Central 72-36 on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-7.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Surry to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Edwards, who rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Edwards was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Braden Snow was in the mix too, providing East Surry with two touchdowns.
Surry Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Allen Huffman, who rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Tripp Mcmillen, who picked up 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
East Surry's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Surry Central, their loss was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-7.
East Surry will head out on the road to face off against North Surry at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. North Surry is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Surry Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilkes Central at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th.
