Soccer Recap: Mckeel Academy Extends Winning Streak to Six

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McKeel Academy). Their defense stepped up to hand the Lake Wales Highlanders an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matches by three goals or more so far this season.

They hit Lake Wales with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Abigail Lovelady (3), Ava Chevalier (3), Trinity Pierce, and Natalie Medina.

The win (which was McKeel Academy's sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those six contests. As for Lake Wales, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

McKeel Academy and Lake Wales should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. McKeel Academy (ranked 30th) will meet Lakeland (ranked 135th) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Lake Wales will take on Discovery at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025 up 295 places (252 vs. 547).
