After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cobre, The Socorro Warriors were happy to have found some success on Friday. They took down Hatch Valley 37-20. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Socorro's seven-point performance the matchup before.
Socorro got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Ocampo out in front who threw for 247 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes. Jay Lee also helped out as he racked up 157 receiving yards.
Several Bears players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demarcus Alaniz, who picked up 41 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jacob Gomez, who threw for 107 yards and two touchdowns.
Socorro's win was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-2. As for Hatch Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Socorro will square off against Hot Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Hot Springs is ranked 73rd, while Socorro is ranked 49th). As for Hatch Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Cobre at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cobre is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
