The Van Wert Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 47-23 walloping at the hands of Shawnee. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Van Wert has scored all season.
Shawnee found their leader in underclassman Beckett Bertke, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bertke has scored at least a third of Shawnee's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Lynch, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Van Wert has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Shawnee, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Van Wert will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Shawnee, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Titans at 7:30 p.m. Ottawa-Glandorf is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
